‘Not a Shield, but a Weapon‘ is an installation of 180 high-end handbags evoking the effects of the trade liberation in the Philippines. Pio Abad proposes a link between Margaret Thatcher’s legacy and the history of Marikina,Philippines where the handbags were produced. Margaret Thatcher’s Asprey handbag was featured in 1985 while she was walking alongside with US President Ronald Reagan. The bag was later sold for £25,000 in a charity auction.
