Art Consultant Holly Mazar-Fox
At the age of 15, Holly visited the Guggenheim in New York for the first time and it was at that moment, she fell in love with art (an Henri Rousseau specially), and the rest was history. To this day, she continues to share her passion for art with others!
She holds a BA from Yale University in the History of Art, an MA from The Courtauld Institute of Art (England) and received an LLB from City University (England). Prior to founding Mazar-Fox Art Consulting, she built a global art career, spanning over 10 years working for diverse sectors of the industry, including: the Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington, DC), Waddington’s Auction House (Toronto, Canada) and RSA’s Insurance Risk Division (London, England).
‘My international experiences in the art market through both academic and professional channels have enabled me to establish an extensive network of dealers, curators, artists and specialists.

Meet Holly Mazar-Fox
1. What is the story behind ‘Mazar-Fox Art Consulting’?
Having had the opportunity to work internationally and for various industries within the arts, I wanted to bring this knowledge to a wider client base. Additionally, I wanted to present a business element to my company that is often lacking in the arts, whether through innovation and technology, growing an artist’s career, cross professional partnerships etc., The arts can be slow to move with change and I believe in seeking out new opportunities wherever they lie.
2. In your opinion, what is the most important value(s) for Mazar-Fox as an art consultant?
Honesty and trust. Clients come to me for my insights and my opinions. It is of utmost importance they have full faith in my role as an advisor – I want every client to LOVE every piece of art they purchase through me for their lifetimes.
3. Which ‘Mazar-Fox’ artists best represent your art consultancy’s personality?
For me, it is all about making my clients happy and providing them with exceptional service. I am continually building an enciclopedia of artwork; continually learning and discovering different types of artworks and styles (hence, the importance of attending art shows and fairs). I can best assist clients with the artwork they are passionate about collecting, no matter their stylistic preferences.
4. Is art collection an enjoyment or an investment?
Ah, I often get asked this question. My answer is consistently, both. Artwork is the only financial asset that you can appreciate in real-time! In my opinion, you get the best of both worlds. Stock and bonds can’t provide that for a collector!
5. Art buyers and collectors need your knowledge and expertise because…
The art world is a real labyrinth that is extremely challenging and overwhelming to navigate. Unfortunately, the art world is a tight knit community that often is not very open to newcomers. Clients, therefore, not only depend on my art expertise, but also on my connections to galleries and artists. Time is also an issue – many of my clients don’t have the time or the relevant knowledge to search for art themselves – my services are efficient and effective.

6. In a world of e-commerce, what is your vision of gallery owners and art dealers for the next 10 years?
As we’ve seen over the last few years (in part due to Covid), collectors and buyers (in the middle range of spending) are willing to part with larger sums of money online than done previously – I believe this trend will continue as we live in an “instant” desire/ one-click world. I also believe artists will continue to come into the fold in their own right and maintain their own spotlight.
7. How do you see the future of international art fairs?
As the arts become more and more globalised, international fairs will continue to remain a staple. I don’t think we need any additional fairs to the yearly roster, but the trend of galleries only showing at fairs without a bricks and mortar location will continue to grow.
8. What is so special about living in Bermuda?
The weather, the beaches and the people – inspiration is all around us. It is also perfectly located to travel to art hubs rather easily (New York and London).
9. What other countries do you cover?
Everywhere! I have clients based in Canada, Bermuda, the US and Europe… I also source artworks from these countries too!
10. What art magazines and design websites inspire you?
I read The Art Newspaper daily – it’s my “go-to” for art-related information, along with Artnet News (I receive daily briefings). I also receive gallery updates regarding new upcoming shows and exhibitions – it’s a wonderful and inspiring way to keep up-to-date on new artists, new collaborations, new artworks.

11. And finally Holly, what items identifies you?
Unsurprisingly, my art! Some of my favorites in my collection include: Jusef Albers, Laurence De Valmy; Katy Cowan, Thrush Holmes and Gherdai Hassel.
