AUDEMARS PIGUET
‘Global associate partner of Art Basel’
Art Basel Hong Kong 2017
Since 2013, Audemars Piguet has explored connections between artists as Partner of Art Basel, the world’s most famous modern and contemporary art shows, held annually in Hong Kong, Basel and Miami. As pioneers in the watchmaking, Audemars Piguet organizes exhibitions showcasing exceptional timepieces in their booth within the exclusive Collectors Lounges.
Sebastian Errazuriz
For a second consecutive year, Sebastian Errazuiz has created a new lounge inspired by Audemars Piguet’ s home in the Jura Valley. With the title ‘ Second Nature’ this recent design has evolved from last year’s ice formations to a space with warmer materials like wood. This concept followed the development of a tree which has been created using both traditional and cutting- edge methods, from hand dawn sketches to digital fabrication devices.
Sebastian Errazuriz is an artist, designer and activist who has received international acclaim for his original and provocative work. The Audemars Piguet Art Commission was launched in 2015 challenging artists to explore and visualize the parallel themes of complexity, precision and links between science, art and nature. Errazuriz has achieved to go beyond what is possible creating a dream of tree carving and replicating nature.
Cheng Ran
“Circadian Rhythm”
Audemars Piguet Art Programme unveiled at Art Basel Hong Kong 2017 a video installation by Chinese artist Cheng Ran. This sumptuous video of the Jura Valley is one the most ambitious projects presented to the public within the Collectors Lounge of Art Basel.
Cheng Ran is one of China’s key emerging artists and is known for pushing the boundaries of video art through installations that borrow heavily from both Chinese and Western culture and history.
The Audemars Piguet Art Programme proudly presented a video installation set in the Jura Valley which transports the viewers on a journey between landscape and soundscape, flowing seamlessly through water, mossy forests and inside the micro universe of watches. As the film unfolds, a subtle soundtrack of natural sounds intertwined with the mechanical ticks emanating from the heart of complicated watches blends with the sights of the picturesque forest and streams captured in the vicinity of Audemars Piguet’s home.
The Audemars Piguet Art Commission supports artists in the creation of works of exceptional complexity and precision. A defining aspect of the Commission is that it not only provides the selected artists with resources, but also creates links to special expertise required to realize original artworks.
