An epic star-studded ride from Zürich to Vienna at Europe’s premier HIV/AIDS benefit
amfAR partnered with LIFE+, organizers of the renowned Life Ball, for “amfAR’s Epic Ride to Life Ball,” an HIV/AIDS awareness motorcycle rally to mark the 25th anniversary of Europe’s largest HIV/AIDS fundraising event. Beginning in Zürich, Switzerland, on May 30, 2018, the four-day ride culminated in Vienna, Austria, on June 2.
amfAR Chief Executive Officer Kevin Robert Frost led the ride and was joined by longtime supporters of amfAR and the fight against HIV/AIDS: Adrien Brody, Ian Bohen, JR Bourne, Michiel Huisman, Gilles Marini, Katee Sackhoff and Chris Salgardo. The riders traversed 1,131 kilometers (703 miles) of the majestic Alpine terrain of Switzerland and Austria, before rumbling up to the grand Vienna City Hall to participate in the 25th Life Ball opening ceremony.
Thousands of spectators were at the “Sound of Music”-themed Life Ball opening ceremony, which featured performances by Patti LaBelle, inspirational speeches and celebrity appearances by Paris Jackson, Kelly Osbourne and Caitlyn Jenner, among others.
A portion of the proceeds from Life Ball will support amfAR’s TREAT Asia Pediatric HIV/AIDS Initiative, which focuses on improving the health and lives of children and adolescents living with HIV across the Asia-Pacific region. Over more than a decade, LIFE+ has provided more than $6 million through Life Ball to the Pediatric Initiative.
